Columbia began producing carbon paper and inked ribbons in 1931, then expanded to pencils in the 1940s under the name Columbia Pencil & Crayon Company. The Australian brand as eventually acquired by the German firm Pelikan which manufactured Columbia pencils in Indonesia before shutting down the brand sometime around 2017.
