The Persian script translated into English, it literally means: "German Pencil Number 2". The top model is actually manufactured by Faber Castell in the 70's. NOTE: The top black model is available for purchase here.

Update: Recently I received the Alligator Made in Iran by someone who actually acquired it from Iran in the mid 1970's. Perhaps this is the original design by Johann Faber manufactured under license in Iran. Upon further observation, the foil stamping on the Iranian model is much sharper then that of the Faber-Castell model. Gives me pause to ponder if it is older, I suspect so.

About Johann Faber

Johann Faber was one of three brothers who at one point worked for the Stein, Germany-based family business known as A.W. Faber Pencil Company in the second half of the 19th century. (Johann’s younger brother, Eberhard Faber, opened the first American pencil factory.) Johann left to start his own pencil business in Nuremberg in 1879. However, his company ended up merging with A.W. Faber during the global economic crisis of the late 1920s.
