December 2020: The 23rd release in Blackwing’s Volumes series, the Blackwing 6 celebrates independent businesses and their entrepreneurial spirit. Each boxed set from the factory comes with six neon red and six neon blue pencils inspired by the iconic neon “Open” sign. The pencils feature a black ferrule, black imprint, and soft graphite. The number six is a nod to the six Noble Gases which give neon lights their distinct colors. NOTE: I am offering them as a pair here.
Palomino Brands was at one time a division of California Cedar Products Company, which produces CalCedar® and other types of wood slats for pencil manufacturers around the world. California Republic Stationer pencils were first produced beginning in 2003, and in 2012 the company began a transition to Palomino Brands for all new production.
Today, the company no longer uses the Palomino brand name, and instead has put all of its chips on Black(wing). Every three months a new Blackwing Volumes limited edition pencil is introduced, which are made at an undisclosed location in Japan using California cedar and Japanese graphite cores.
