Nice! Older square graphite French pencil.
Frenchman Victor Marquise (1838-1900, pictured below) founded the company in 1871. He and his wife, along with one worker, are said to have been responsible for all pencil manufacturing. Their small factory was located in a village called Saint-Paul-en-Jarez near Lyon, France. (Thank you Jean-luc, a local resident and pencil enthusiast for the tip!)
