Brand: Caran d’Ache
Made in: Switzerland
Made from Beech wood from the Swiss Jura Forest. The Caran d'Ache 348 is both thicker and heavier than normal pencils. The bottom model is from the New Swiss Wood Set of two and does not have the 348 printed on the pencil. It also has the newer logo (with the capital D).
Based in Switzerland, Caran d’Ache has been producing fine writing instruments in Geneva workshops since 1915. The company began as Fabrique Genevoise de Crayons and changed its name to Caran d’Ache in 1924. The name is based on “karandash” — Russian for pencil. The company updated its logo in 2015 to mark its 100th anniversary. For an in-depth analysis about its logo design evolution, click here.
