BLACK OUT!  Rare find. We are all familiar with the color of the uni.  It's maroon right.  Well, you won't see many uni pencils made in black.  Appears to be a special order made exclusively for the Society for Penmanship Education in Wakayama Prefecture.   Includes the JIS symbol, dating this pencil to pre-2008. (Read more on the BNP blog.).

The government issues official certificates to
people who pass official exams in which they are required to
hand-copy a printed material either by brush (of calligraphy) or
by some kind of pen (fountain pen, pencil, ball-point pen, etc.)
This pencil says it fits the use in the exam of the latter.

About Mitsubishi Pencil Co.

Founded in 1887 and formerly known as Masaki Yomato, Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd. is best-known today for its “uni” brand of quality writing instruments sold worldwide. Curiously, this Tokyo-based business is unrelated to Mitsubishi Motors and other brands within the Mitsubishi Group. Same name, same logo, completely different company.
