The four big characters say Kitaboshi Pencil. The smaller characters say "Made proudly by Kitaboshi Pencil Co. Ltd." Archaic Kanji characters = before 1949.
This Tokyo-based company established its first factory in Saroma, Hokkaido, in 1913. In 1951 it became known as the Hokusai Pencil Co., Ltd., and still manufactures pencils today. Learn more at kitaboshi.co.jp.
