Volumes 24 (March 2016): The 4th release in Blackwing’s Volumes series, the Blackwing 24 pays tribute to Pulitzer Prize winning author John Steinbeck.
Volumes 530 (December 2016): The 6th in the “Volumes” series of limited edition Blackwing pencils, the Blackwing 530 is a tribute to the Sutter’s Mill, California Historical Site No. 530 where gold was first discovered.
Volumes 10 (June 2019): The 17th release in Blackwing’s Volumes series, the Blackwing 10 is a tribute to Nellie Bly — and investigative journalists like her.
Volumes 3 (June 2020): The 21st release in Blackwing’s Volumes series, the Blackwing 3 is a tribute to Ravi Shankar on his 100th birthday.
Palomino Brands was at one time a division of California Cedar Products Company, which produces CalCedar® and other types of wood slats for pencil manufacturers around the world. California Republic Stationer pencils were first produced beginning in 2003, and in 2012 the company began a transition to Palomino Brands for all new production.
Today, the company no longer uses the Palomino brand name, and instead has put all of its chips on Black(wing). Every three months a new Blackwing Volumes limited edition pencil is introduced, which are made at an undisclosed location in Japan using California cedar and Japanese graphite cores.
