Brand: Krasin Pencil Factory
Made in: Russia
Finding Soviet pencils pre-WWII can prove to be rather difficult. As with all Russian pencils, the date on this pencil is represented by the 45 = 1945. I am going to label this one as a WWII era Soviet pencil, but of course it would be hard to say exactly if it was made before September 2, 1945....if so, it's a survivor.
The pencil logo and name of pencil features Soviet icebreaker Krassin (or Krasin) which became world-famous for its rescue of the Swedish Arctic expedition led by Nobel.
Founded in 1926, Krasin Pencil Factory is the oldest Russian manufacturer of writing instruments still in operation today. The Moscow-based company announced in 2015 that it would be building a large new pencil plant, to be running at full capacity by 2022. Many of Krasin’s pencils are marked with a number indicating the year they were produced (ie. 56 is 1956). More information at their website, here.
