A. Hammer Pencil Company was founded in the U.S.S.R. in 1926, and is named after the American industrialist Armand Hammer, aka the "red millionaire" as he was known in the west. A few years later, around 1930, Hammer was bought out by the Soviets and the company was renamed Sacco & Vanzetti Pencil Factory.
